It's Past Time for a Lancaster County Health Department
We have 550,000 people across 60 municipalities in Lancaster County, but no health department. It’s past time to create one. That’s why I’m leading the effort to ask County Commissioners to create a Lancaster County Health Department by the end of this year – if not before.
I have introduced a resolution in Manheim Township to call on county officials to begin the process and I am asking officials from other municipalities to do the same.
The stakes could not be higher.
We have seen the difference between good and bad public health policy the last year. We have seen the impact of having a coordinated response to a public health crisis. And as we move forward on vaccinations, we know that a centralized effort will make things move more efficiently and equitably.
I’m calling on Lancaster County Officials to take a commonsense approach, leverage available state and federal funds, and establish a Health Department that will help us move forward through the rest of this pandemic and plan for the future. I would like to hear your thoughts and suggestions on this issue, and I hope that in the coming weeks you will join me in asking other elected officials to support the creation of a Lancaster County Health Department.
