Board Unanimously Calls for Establishing Lancaster County Health Department
Friends, Last night, the Board of Commissioners unanimously voted for my resolution calling on Lancaster County officials to begin the process of establishing a County Health Department by the end of the year.
This is a big deal, but it's only the start.
Now that Delaware County has started the process, Lancaster is the largest county in the Commonwealth without a county health department. That's 550,000 people across 60 municipalities with no county-level public health department. We have more than twice the people of Erie County, but they have a health department and we do not.
As we mark the one year anniversary of the pandemic impacting our daily lives - it's inexcusable to not have a county health department here.
I'm proud that I led this resolution. I'm proud that we passed it unanimously, but I plan to keep pushing until the County takes this commonsense and needed action.
